I will need large yardage of ecru silk fabric to make skirt and front panel of my Triste dress. I am afraid it’s time to cut up this antique wedding gown I had for a while… This gown came with a tag that shows the date when the dress was made and name of the person who owned it. I even researched name of the owner and I found a wedding report on old newspaper when she wore this gown in 1913. I am sure this gown means so much to certain family and that makes me feel even more guiltier to cut up this dress…  So I took pictures of the dress before I took apart and decided to post  on my blog as a record. I will promise I will make good use of this gown as a part of my doll dress and will be appreciated for a long time. I hope original owner will agree with me. 🙂

トリステのドレスにエクルカラーのアンテイークシルクが、大量に必要です。いよいよこの手持ちのエドワーデイアンウェデイングドレスにハサミを入れる時が来ました。。。　　　　　　実はこのドレスには、購入した際にいっしょに札がついていました。そこには、ドレスが作られた日にちと所有者の名前、そして、孫娘さんが結婚する際に着てほしいと書いてあります。こんな風に所在がはっきりしたドレスを見つけるのはちょっと珍しいケースです。ちなみに、札についている名前をリサーチしてみたら、所有者の結婚式の記事を見つけました。　１９１３年当時にしては、なかなか豪華な結婚式だったようです。こんな歴史を発見してしまったら、ますますドレスを解体するのが難しくなりました。そこでとりあえず、解体前の画像を記録としてこのブログに残しておこうと思います。そしてこのドレスの生地を使って、トリステが着てくれる素敵なドレスとして甦らせてあげたいと思います。どうかオリジナルのオーナー様も喜んでくださるように。。。

There are several coin size weights were sewn in at the bottom on the gown. Very heavy.

Choosing right lace for the dress is extremely important. Not only patterns have to be appropriate for the dress but the color also has to be right. It pays off to be a lace hoarder at time like this. Problem is, I spent too much time just picking and thinking and nothing is moving forward when it comes to sewing. I guess this is also part of doll making but I sure feel like wasting my precious time…

ドレスに合うレースを探すのは一苦労です。レースの模様がドレスにふさわしいものであるのはもちろんのこと、色もドレスに合っていなければなりません。こういう時は、レースを買いだめしておいて本当によかったと思えます。ただし、一日中あれこれ悩んでいるために、裁縫のほうがぜんぜん進みません。これもドールメイキングのプロセスなんですが、時間がもったいないです。

If you ever worked with antique silk fabrics, you know how fragile they are.                  Some of them are so brittle, it literally crumbles when you touch them.                                I have this dark green antique silk fabric that has tears all over due to its age and it’s in unusable condition. But I have a ” secret weapon” that I can apply to this kind of fabrics and make it reusable.It’s just simple cotton batiste but has glue at one side and you can fuse it by ironing .There are similar fusible web sheet you can buy at craft store but most of them have too much glue and make fabrics too stiff. Not suitable for doll dress.This material is made with cotton batiste and has very thin layer of glue and it does not make fabrics too stiff.It’s perfect for antique silk. Unfortunately I can not find the same backing fabrics in US. I purchased it in Japan because these type of fabrics are commonly used among crafters in Japan. If anyone knows the same materials you can purchase in US, please let me know. They are very handy for sure.

アンテイークのシルク地は、使ったことがある方ならわかるともいますが、とてもデリケートで壊れやすいですよね。中には、触っただけで崩れ落ちるようなものもあります。トリステのジャケット用に用意したこのダークグリーンのアンテイークシルクは、ところどころに裂け目が入っていて、本来なら使い物にならないのですが、こんなときは日本で買った綿ローンの糊付き裏地がとても重宝します。裏地自体が薄いし、糊の量も多すぎず少なすぎず、シルク地を硬くしないところがドレスメイキングに最適です。これは、アメリカでは手に入らないので、わざわざ日本から取り寄せています。ほかにも日本でしか手に入らない、とても役に立つクラフト材がたくさんあります。日本のクラフト雑貨はとても優秀だということを、海外に住んで身にしみて感じている今日この頃です。

I mounted my Triste head on antique straight wrist Jumeau body. Now I can work on making dress pattern. I already picked design and fabrics I want to use for her. I often make my own patterns from pictures of antique dresses by using paper towels. This material is easier to work with to adjust shapes and sizes. Not very sophisticated patterns though…

My new attempt this year, I have finally decided to go on Facebook. I didn’t want to create more work since I already have my blog to update. But I have been receiving many requests if I will be on FB someday so I will try this year. Still my priority is to maintain this blog page and reply all email from customers. I am posting additional pictures of Triste per request. This head looks very different from previous head I made. Her eye cut is larger and eye color is lighter. I also painted her eyebrows slightly closer to eyes.  ( less space between eyes and brows)　　　　　　　 All these elements created more alert look on this head compare to my previous Triste.      I love both look but I just love her antique eyes. The finished doll will be about 23 inches.  Can’t wait to finish her already!

お客様のリクエストにより、トリステの追加画像をアップしました。　　　　　　　　　　　前回のヘッドはちょっと眠い感じの憂い顔でしたが、この娘はもう少しきりっとしています。　どちらのタイプも好きですが、やっぱりアンテイークアイの引力はすごいです。見ているだけで、ぐっとひきつけられる感じがします。完成品は23インチ（58cm）ほどの背丈になります。完成するのが今から待ち遠しいです。

A Happy New Year everyone! I am starting this year with Triste head I just finished.             I have been working on her…. how long?? I think I finally made a head works well with antique eyes. She will have this auburn color human hair wig and an antique body. The next step is to make her dress !! I can already feel this year will be another exciting year for my doll making. 日本の皆様、新年明けましておめでとうございます。今年は新年早々、完成したばかりのトリステ譲のヘッドのお披露目から始まります。もうどのくらいの期間このヘッドに取り掛かっていたか忘れるぐらい時間が経ってしまいました。(＾-＾;)　でも、おかげでアンテイークアイがぴったり合う、いいお顔ができたと思います。この娘にはアーバンカラーの人毛ウィッグと、アンテイークボデイーが付きます。そして次は、いよいよドレス制作へ取り掛かりますよ。　　　良いヘッドができると、とてもワクワクします。（今までは悶々していましたが）　　　　　今年もさらにもっと素晴らしい一年になりますように、どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。　　    —  それにしても前回のヘッドとずいぶんお顔が違いますね。どちらも同じモールドからできているのですが、アイカットを大きくしたのと、グラスアイの色が違うのとでイメージがガラリと変わりました。眉毛の位置も、前回の娘よりややまぶたに近くなるよう絵付けしたら、きりっとした感じになりました。
