16 inch Bru doll is almost  complete! I am going to show shoes and corset I made this time.

16インチBru嬢がだんだん完成に近づいてきました。今回は靴とコルセットをお見せしますね。

I traced pattern from antique Bru shoes and reduce the size to fit for 16 inch Bru feet. Bru feet have incredibly realistic sculpting and common one piece shoe patterns do not fit their feet very well.

靴のパターンはアンティークのBru靴からトレースして、サイズを縮小しました。Bruの足はジュモウの足と比べて彫りがとてもリアルに作られていて、よく使われているワンピースの靴のパターンはいまいちぴったりフィットしません。

Instead, Bru shoes were made from two pieces, front section and back section. This seems to create the perfect fitting especially around toe area.

その点Bru靴は前と後ろの二つのピースから作られており、この造りがつま先のフィット感を増してるようです。

And these are my reproduction of Bru shoes. I used black kidskin, much softer than cowhide and easy to manipulate. I antiqued silver buckle and sole leather to give more authentic look. The ankle buttons are antique glass buttons.

こちらが私の作ったBru靴です。牛革より柔らかい黒いキッドスキンを使いました。靴底の革と、シルバーのバックルにアンティーク加工を施して、さらにビンテージ感を出しています。ボタンにはアンティークのガラスボタンを使用しました。

Wouldn’t you be disappointed if you don’t see her wearing proper corset when you undress the doll wearing such a lavishing dress I made last week? Of course you are! So here is a little corset for proper lady.

先週作ったゴージャス感あふれるドレスを脱がしたときに、お嬢様がコルセットをつけていなかったらちょっとがっかりしませんか？しますよね。はい、もちろん作りましたよ、コルセット。

I used antique fabrics and lace so there are some stains. It’s custom fitted for antique Chevrot body that she has to emphasize her narrow waist.

アンティークの素材を使ったのであちこちにシミがありますが、ピカピカしているタイプよりは作品にしっくりくると思います。アンティークのシェブローボディーのキュッとしまったウエストにカスタムフィットさせて作りました。

I made the dress last time, it’s time to make a bonnet this time !   I gather materials fist to get some inspiration for design. I wish I could use all of them but it’s a small bonnet and I don’t think I can put everything on top. LOL 

前回はドレスを作ったので、今度はボネを作りました～。まずは使えそうな材料をザーッと広げてデザインのイメージを作り上げていきます。できれば全部使いたいですが、小さいボネットなのでこれ全部てんこ盛りは無理ですネ。

I don’t really use pattern, I just play with the design as I build the hat. And here is what I came up with. I rarely use feather but I found this feather in my stash and the color seem to work with ribbons and fabric. Instead of adding flowers and more ribbons, I decided to go with simple look with lots of matched lace that I used for the dress.

私は特にパターンは使いません。こんな感じ、という風に作り上げていって、途中で足したり引いたりしていろいろアレンジしていきます。フェザーは普段はあまり使いませんが、このフェザーの色合いがちょうどいい感じなのでつけてみたら、ぴったり来ました。ほかにももっとリボンをつけたり花を付けたりできたのですが、ゴテゴテに飾るより、ドレスに使ったのと同じレースを使ってシンプルに仕上げました。

Brim is two layered and I bent wire asymmetry to give unique look. I used the same ribbon as I used for the dress to give sense of unity.

ブリムが二重になっていて、ワイヤーをアシメトリーな角度に曲げてあります。リボンはドレスに使ったのと同じ物で統一感を出しました。

The fabric of the dress is so pretty, lets not take too much attention away from that. Bonnet is gorgeous but simple enough to keep your eyes on the dress and the doll.

ドレスの生地がとても素敵なので、そこから注意を奪ってしまわないようボネットはさりげなくゴージャスですが、シンプルなデザインに。

I have been saving this marvelous antique silk fabric for a special doll and it’s time to use it! You rarely come across this kind of antique fabric with desirable pattern and color in perfect scale for dolls. Fortunately I just had enough piece left to make a jacket for my 16 inch Bru.

特別な子のために、この素晴らしいアンティークのストライプシルク地を取っておいたのですが、やっと使う時が来ました！似たような生地には時々お目にかかりますが、このシルク地のように色、柄、パターン、そしてストライプの幅がドール用のドレスにぴったりなものはそうそうお目にかかれません。ちょうど16インチのBru嬢のジャケットを作る分だけ残っていたので、さっそく使ってみました。 I am going to use dusky pink antique silk fabric to make skirt section but it’s too shimmering so I antiqued fabric to make it look even more aged.

スカート部分には、画像左のダスキーピンクのアンティークシルクを使うことにしたのですが、ちょっとテカりが強すぎるので、もっと使い古したように加工しました。 And here is the result. I used plenty of antique silk edging lace as an accent. This is one of my favorite Bru dress design.

完成品はこんな感じです。私が一番好きなBruドレスのデザインです。アンティークのシルクレースをアクセントにたっぷり使ったので、いつもよりゴージャスな雰囲気が出ました。 I could have used more complicated design but when I have fabric this gorgeous, it’s better to use simple design to showcase the fabric itself.

もっと変わったデザインを取り入れることもできたのですが、このように素晴らしい生地を使う場合は、デザインはシンプルにして生地の柄を引き立たせた方がいいと思います。 I don’t think I will ever be able to make the same dress again since this striped pattern antique silk fabric is extremely hard to find. What a lucky doll she is going to be!

この生地は本当にレアなアイテムで、これと同じドレスを作れる機会はもうないと思います。これを着せてもらえるBru嬢はラッキーですね！

My doll making has been interrupted lately because I adopted a puppy! I have lost my beloved dogs last fall and I have been waiting for arrival of this new puppy since then.But raising a new puppy is just like having a new born in house ! I have forgotten how buys it can be. I have to get use to this new routine with my work but it’s all worth it. She is nothing but a bundle of joy!

So I finally managed to make Bru arms for antique body. Here is what she looks like now. I have posted I will finish her by October but I think I better finish her sooner so that I can concentrate on making a new doll for exhibition in Japan. I realized I do better if I work one doll at a time to give all my attention to each doll.Sounds good?

最近ドールメイキングが滞っていますが、実は子犬をお迎えしました。去年の秋に最愛の犬２匹を失ってしまい、以来子犬をお迎えする日を指折り数えて待っていたのですが、ついにやってきました！もう目に入れても痛くないほど可愛いのですが、子犬の世話は、赤ちゃんの世話と同じくらい手間がかかりますね。あまりに久しぶりなので、仕事との両立がどうやったらできるか模索中なのですが、取り合えずBru嬢の腕を作るところまでこぎつけました。この子は秋に発売しますと以前ブログに書きましたが、予定外の展示会用の作品を作らなければならないので、早めに完成させることにしました。どうも私は大量生産は向いていないようで、一体づつ気持ちを全力投球させた方がいい作品ができるようです。

I have received a very exciting offer recently. Antique decor furniture shop Geographica in Tokyo has been hosting doll exhibition during Christmas season each year and I was offered to display my dolls this year along with dolls created by top doll artists in Japan. I am extremely honored and have decided to accept this offer. This exhibition is a collaboration of art dolls and antique furniture, a perfect match to create a space filled with magical feelings of Christmas. I love antique furniture and I also use them as back drop when I photograph my dolls. It will be an ideal environment to display dolls for me. I am very excited at the same time I am extremely nervous because this will be my first time to exhibit my dolls in public in Japan. I am planing to make two dolls for this event and I have to juggle my schedule to complete them before deadline. I am still planing to finish 16 inch Bru with antique body I am working on right now as scheduled. She will be for sale in November then I will fly back to Japan in December for this event. I thought I will take it easy rest of this year but turned out be as busy as usual. But I am extremely thankful for people who gave me this opportunity. I hope I can create dolls that will meet their expectations.

この度、東京目黒のアンティーク家具ショップジオグラフィカさんより、１２月に開催される人形展への参加のオファーをいただきました。ジオグラフィカさんでは毎年クリスマスの時期に、アンティークの素晴らしい家具をバックグラウンドに、日本でも選りすぐりの創作人形作家さんの作品をディスプレイする素敵なイベントが開催されています。私の作品は創作人形とはジャンルが違うのですが、今年のテーマは”ヴィクトリアン”だそうなので、私の作品もテーマに合うようです。日本の公の場での作品の展示はこれが初めてなので、しかも大御所の作家様達と作品と並んで、、というので非常にナーバスになっていますが、ご期待に添えるような作品を作りたいと思います。予定としては、一応２体制作します。搬入のため、１２月の初旬にまた東京へ行きます。人形展の開催予定日は１２月９日から２５日までだそうです。この二体は展示とともに販売もいたしますので、制作過程を随時ブログとFBにアップしていきますね。さて、今年後半はゆっくりするつもりでしたが、どうやらまたまた忙しい一年になりそうです。
