Since I found out I have to remake my milette Bru body parts last week, I was so anxious to put this little body together to see how it will look when it’s finished. If you feel the same, here she is!

先週ミレットBruのパーツのやり直しをすることになってから、いったいこのボデイーがどんな風に出来上がるのかワクワクしながら一週間を過ごしました。（そしてこんなに早くボデイーが出来上がったのも初めてです。）

She is only 12 inch tall but it has correct proportion now. 　　　　　　　　　　　　　で、完成しました!　背丈30センチのサイズですが、プロポーションが大きい子と同じように出来たのが嬉しいです。

I love this particular Bru hand mold I used. Molding of fingers are very detailed.

今回新たに作ったビスクハンド用に使ったモールドは、指先の作りがとてもアンテイークに忠実でいい感じです。

I cast another set of lower legs with larger leg mold. I carved more details on toes …

下肢も大きいサイズのモールドで作り直しました。つま先のラインが曖昧なので、デイテールを彫りなおしました。

And adjusted shape of calves and ankles, created arches of the foot.

ふくらはぎと足首のラインがサリーちゃんなので、それをBruの下肢らしく直して、土踏まずもつけました。

After clay was baked, I painted them and did little antiquing to make them look aged.

粘土が焼けてからペイントをして、さらにビンテージ風の加工を施しました。

I am still picking dress design at this point. I will take time to decide what dress will looks the best for her. Please stay tuned!

これでやっとドレス制作にかかれます。でもまだデザインが決まって無いんですよ。これからゆっくり時間をかけてこの娘に合う素的なドレスを作ってあげたいと思います。お楽しみに!

It was my biggest mistake to say ” making smaller doll’s body parts are fairly easy” in previous posting. Well,  I am paying a big price for saying that because I tried to put body parts together to see the balance then realized hands and legs for milette body are too small for Chevrot style body. The body molds I have are for composition style body and these parts may work fine for that style but not for Bru Chevrot body unfortunately. This kind of mistakes happens all the time when I work with new dolls . You just never know if everything works till you assemble each dolls. I like to pay attention to small details when I make dolls and having appropriate size and style of the body is very important to me.

前回の投稿で”小さい娘のボデイーパーツを作るのは簡単”なんて言ったのが間違いでした。。。股関節と太もものパーツが出来たので、ボデイーのバランスを見るために仮の組み立てをしてみたらなんと、腕と下肢が異様に小さいではないですか！私が持っているミレットのボデイーモールドはコンポジション用なので、コンポジションやオールビスクで作った場合はこれらのパーツでもバランスが合っているのかもしれません。でもシェブローボデイーにはとてもアンバランスです。こういう失敗は、作ったことの無い作品に取り掛かるときにいつも付きまといます。実際に組み立ててみるまで、バランスの良さなどはわからないものですね。作品を作るときは、やっぱりボデイーもちゃんとバランスのいい物をつけてあげたいので、このままで完成させるわけには行きません。

Put body parts together temporary to see the balance and something is not right with these arms and legs …..

用意していたボデイーパーツを仮に組み立ててみると。。なんだかバランスがおかしい。。

Fortunately I have Bru arm and leg mold one size larger and I tried them with the same torso, Voila! they look so much balanced. Proportion is correct with larger arms and legs.

幸いワンサイズ大き目のビスクアームと下肢のモールドがあったので、さっそくそちらを当ててみました。やっぱりこれが正しいプロポーションですね。

二つのパーツを並べてみるとかなりのサイズの違いがわかります。

I save body parts with imperfection for fitting purpose to save my time so that I don’t have to fire new parts just to find out which parts works for certain body.

私は失敗したパーツは保管しておいて、こういう時のために使います。サイズ合わせ用にいちいち新しいパーツを作る必要が無いので便利です。

Now I am working on to make new arms and legs. It’s a small set backs but it’s a necessary step to do the job right!

というわけで、新しいパーツをまた作らなくては。二度手間になってしまって進行状況的にははちょっと後戻りですが、ちゃんとした作品を作るためには必要な工程です。

Milette head did not require as many firings compare to larger heads since it has less surface to work with BUT! boy, I had a hard time seeing small lines such as eyelashes. It is hard to tell how small this head is on the picture, I think her head is about same size as an egg. I can’t believe some talented artists make even smaller size Bru ! I think this is my limit folks.

ミレットヘッドは絵付けする面積が少ない分、焼成する回数が少なくて済みました。でも、老眼のせいで細かい部分、とくにアイラッシュのラインが見えなくて苦労しました。描いてるうちにラインがダブって見えたりするからもう大変です。画像だとサイズの感覚が良くわかりませんが、卵ほどの大きさのヘッドです。私にはこれが絵付けできる限界ですね。これより小さいサイズの作品を作ってらっしゃる作家さんにはほんと、脱帽です!

This head is my very first trial and it came out as satisfactory. I will be using this head to make complete doll.

一回目の試作品にもかかわらずけっこう良くできたので、このヘッドを使って完成品を作ろうと思います。

By the way, Marque head did not make during bisque firing. It had large crack on chin so I am re-doing it from casting. It will take for a while till I get to work on her because I am excited with this milette Bru head and want to finish her first!

マルクのヘッドは残念ながらビスク焼成中にあごにヒビが入ってしまい、一からやり直しということになりました。今はこのミレットヘッドで早く完成品を作りたい気持ちでいっぱいなので、マルクはしばらくお預けとなりそうです。

Milette size Bru will be about 12 inches tall when I put together. Of course each body parts are so much smaller than what I am use to making. I have been working on body parts at the same time as I was in the process of cleaning Bru and Marque heads. I don’t have much time luxury for doll making since I can do this only on my day offs so I need to work very efficiently. I am so glad I made this much progress so far.

ミレットサイズのBruは完成すると30センチぐらいになるそうですが、さすがにパーツも小さい！私は休みの日にしかドールメイキングが出来ないので、時間を有効に使うためにヘッドをクリーニングしたりする合間にパーツをちょこちょこっと作ってみました。今週ここまで出来たのには満足です。

This is the area may not be seen by anyone but I want to make sure this little Bru has        ” toes” just like antique Bru dolls so I sculpted them before I baked clay. Leg on the right is as they came out from mold. You can barely see toe lines.

足のつま先とか、おそらくほとんど見てもらえる機会は無いと思うのですが、やっぱりいくら小さいとはいっても、彼女にはアンテイークのBru嬢のようにきちんと足の指はつけてあげたいので、粘土を焼く前に彫りました。右側がモールドから抜いたままの状態。指のラインがほとんど見えません。

After legs were baked, I painted them to match the color with antique Bru legs. Also added little aged look to make them look ” vintage”.

足の色付けは、アンテイークの下肢と同じ色になるように合わせました。パーフェクトではないですが、かなり近い色になりました。ビンテージ風の汚れ、ペイントの剥げもつけました。

Bisque shoulder plate, bisque arms can be made in short amount of time since they are small. Now I have body parts to fit on Chevrot style torso. But that will be a project for next few weeks…

ビスクのショルダープレートと、ビスクアームはさすがに小さいだけあって割りと簡単に出来ました。これでメインの胴体に取り掛かれる状態。なんですが、これからが一番大変で、何週間かかかるんですよ。

Milette size Bru head is cleaned, ready for bisque fire. Making eye cut for this little head was a rather challenging job. This greenware is very delicate and you can chip eye rim so easily. I hope it fires without warping. Also cleaned Marque head. Making eye cut in slant position was new to me. I guess that makes distinctive look of  Marque doll.

ミレットBruのヘッドのクリーニングが終わりました。いよいよビスク焼成です。この小さいヘッドのアイカットを作るのには苦労しました。ちょっと油断するとあっというまに縁が欠けてしまうほど細かい作業なのでつらい。マルクのヘッドもクリーニング完了。眼を垂れ眼のままにしておくことがマルクらしさを出す重要なポイントなので、アイカットを修正したい心をぐっと抑えて垂れ眼に仕上げました。どうか二つのヘッドが無事に焼成できますように。。。

Ahhhh, I finally found time to start doll making first time in this year! I have been wanting to do so many things and all kinds of ideas were brewing in my head for last few weeks. I want to try something new this year since I acquired quite few molds last year. There is no way I can try them all so I selected few project I may be able to do this year.

今年やっとドールメイキングを始めることができました!　今まであれこれとやりたいことを頭の中でグルグル考えていて、この機会をずっと待ていました。去年たくさんのモールドをいただいたので、今年は新しい作品に挑戦してみたいのですが、さすがに全部のモールドを試してみるわけにはいかないので、今年作れそうな物を絞ってチャレンジしてみます。

I picked these two molds as my first project of the year. 12 inch milette size Bru Jne and large A. Marque head.

まずはこの12インチのミレットサイズのBruと、マルクのヘッドから初めようかと思いました。

The smallest Bru Jne I have been making was 14 inch Bru Jne 4. This 12 inch Bru head on the right seem so much smaller compare to 14 inch Bru on the left. The head will shrink even more after I bisque fire. Will I be able to paint her to make it look like Bru???

いままで作った中で一番小さいBruは14インチのBruJne4でした。それと比べるとミレットサイズはかなり小さめです。焼成すると更に縮むわけですが、こんなに小さいヘッドを上手く得付けすることが出来るでしょうか？私は小さいサイズは苦手なので、う～ん、、、かなりのチャレンジになりそうです。

Thank goodness I have this issue of Gildebrief including pattern of 12 inch Chevrot body.

幸いなことに、このギルデブリーフの12インチBru用シェブローボデイーの型紙付きの号を持っていました。

I never worked with A Marque head. This will be my very first time to try. We will see how it will turn out. If I can create good enough quality head , I may be able to offer her for sale…

マルクのヘッドは今回が初めての絵付けとなります。どんな風に出来上がるかまったく予想がつきませんが、上手く絵付けできたら販売用に使えるかもしれません。

A Happy New Year! May 2016 brings lots of joy and happiness to everyone.

2016 is my 10th anniversary year since I established doll business and opened my website back in 2006. There were some ups and downs in past 10 years but I would never guessed my doll’s popularity stays this stable. I can not thank enough for everyone who supported me through the year and gave me encouragement.

Well, I have planed two big events this year as my new year resolution. The fist one is to have annual lunch meeting event in my house this year around Memorial day weekend which is last weekend of May. I can plan for two days event instead of one day I have been doing. I will make a doll to present for this event and everyone can see her and touch her, undress her ( I am planing to use antique Chevrot body again) to study her body and dress. I could also plan some other study subject per participant request. I also have large amount of doll mold I was given and I like to share them for anyone wish to take them home. 

The second plan is to make a photo book of my favorite dolls in past 10 years. I made doll calendar last year and it was in big demand. I will try to put my doll photos together in book this year for more keepsake style. It will take time to organize and edit photos so I am aiming them to be available before Christmas time.

I can not promise all plans will come true but I will try. Please look forward for what I will do this year!

あけましておめでとうございます！2016年が皆さんにとって幸多き年でありますように!

2016年は私がウェブサイトを起こしてドールビジネスの会社を設立してから10周年記念の年になります。（はやいものですね～）この間本当にいろんなことがありましたが、こうやって今だに私の作品を支持してくださるファンの方がたくさんいらっしゃることに、なんと感謝してよいのやら。ほんとうにありがとうございます。皆さんの励まし無しには、今日の私はあり得ません。

今年は10周年を記念して、二つのイベントを企画しています。まず一つ目は、恒例となったランチミーテイングを、今年はリノの私のスタジオで計画しています。日程はとしては5月最後の週末あたりで、二日に渡って行おうかな、と思っています。ミーテイングでお披露目用の作品を、前回のようにアンテイークボデイーを使って制作する予定です。そして昨年同様、お客様に作品を見て触っていただいて、アンテイークボデイやドレスについて説明したいと思います。二日ありますので、ほかにもなにかプログラムを計画して欲しいというご要望があれば、それも企画してみたいと思います。あと、昨年中にドールメイキングを引退した友人からたくさんのモールドを分けていただきました。とても私一人では使い切れないので、参加者の方におすそ分けをしたいと思います。

もう一つのイベントは、去年カレンダーを作った際にとても好評だったので、今年は10周年を区切りとして10年間の作品のお気に入りを集めたフォトブックを作成したいと思います。写真の編集に時間がかかるので、販売はクリスマス前を予定しています。

これらの企画がすべて現実になるかは保障できませんが、今年も目標としてチャレンジしてみたいと思います。楽しみにしていてくださいね！
