14″ Bru Jne 4 is ready to be dressed

I antiqued leather and assembled the head and body together. Here is my 14” Bru Jne 4 waiting to be dressed. I am working on her dress design now 😊

Before and after antiquing the leather

Back to work!

My summer break is over. Time to get back to work! I took a little trip to NYC during the break. My friend and I went to see a show on Broadway and a Ballet in Metropolitan opera house. But my main reason for this trip was to go to Garment district. I found a great leather shop to look for kidskin or lamb hide for doll making. I have been buying Italian leather directly from Italy but buying online without seeing actual item is sometime tricky. This time I found many Italian lamb hide with correct thickness with smooth grain on top of the amazing color. I love the cream colored lambskin I found. This shade is very close to an antique Bru body and so hard to find. It was definitely worth the trip !

Italian leather hide I purchased this time
I went to see Phantom of the opera on Broadway one night …
Next day was ballet ” Swan Lake” at Metropolitan opera house
Beautiful theater!

I will take a short summer break

I made arms for 14” Bru doll.
Next step is to antique the leather and assemble the body. But bursitis on my shoulders worsened from doing body making so I will take a short summer break to rest my body. Have a wonderful summer everyone! 🥰🥰

Making Chevrot body

I have been working on the torso of a Chevrot body. Chevrot body has a unique structure, Metal upper legs are attached to the hip joint and the torso is packed with granulated cork.Parking cork requires a lot of elbow grease. It is very important to pack it as tight as you can in order to make a steady body. I painted lower legs after making holes in my knee joint. I tried to match the color as closely as possible to antique Bru legs then gave an antique finish.

14″ Bru Jne 4 head

I finished making 14″ Bru Jne 4 head. I set antique blue oval eyes and she looks very nice.  I think I am going to use this head for my next doll. I fired six times to paint this head and posted a short video of the painting process of this head on Instagram. That’s about average firing time when I paint French doll heads.                                                             You can also view from this link.  Fliptastic                                                                             ( This doll is reserved for a customer on the waiting list)

she looks cute form this angle too

My next doll

My next doll is 14” Bru Jne 4.
I started making lower legs while bisque parts are being fired for soft firing.
I don’t have Bru leg mold for this size so I casted Jumeau leg and reshaped it to Bru leg while clay is still soft. I am using the actual Bru leg as a guide.
Next I cleaned soft fired greenware Bru head.
I only use exacto knife to make eye holes. I don’t use an eye beveler because I tend to chip the eye rim with beveler. (;^ω^)

Cast Jumeau leg at first

Then reshape Jumeau leg to Bru leg

Using antique Bru leg as guide

make sure to carve toes on sole just like antique Bru foot

baked them in the oven then became hard composition leg

Victorian fashion show and tea party

I attended Victorian fashion show and tea party in Virginia City, Nevada. Virginia city is Reno’s neighboring city and still preserves original buildings and streets from the Victorian era.Virginia city was booming with silver mining in the 1800’s and was a very modern city at that time. They even has an Opera house.
The event was held at the Historic Fourth Ward school museum built in 1876. Participants are encouraged to wear period costumes so my friend and I fixed up costumes quickly.      ( We only had one week to prepare) I adjusted the size of the Edwardian dress for my size and decorated a vintage hat with feathers and ribbons to wear for this occasion.People who modeled for the fashion show actually made their own costumes! ( Very well made) We also had an opportunity to study about antique dresses from that era including how undergarments are constructed and assembled. It was an extremely interesting and educational event. I thoroughly enjoyed the day. I would love to make an Victorian costume for myself to attend next time.

Presentation box

I made a presentation box with a vintage all bisque doll to donate as this summer’s UFDC national convention helper gift. Sierra Nevada doll club members donated materials and I put them together. I won’t be attending convention this year but someone who wins this ruffle prize will enjoy it . 🥰

Newest Creation 12″ Bru Jne

Here she is! My newest creation is a 12″ Bru Jne doll. It’s been a big change for me to work on such a small doll since my last doll was 30″ tall. But my eyes adjusted very well for making the small dress as I was putting more hours in. I was able to pay enough attention to details to make her corset or adding tiny trims. I am very happy with how she turned out.
She is 12″ tall without a wig, about 14″ with bonnet. Her wig is an antique blonde mohair wig, her eyes are British eyes with spiral thread which gives her an antique look. I made a Chevrot style body and stained leather and lower legs to give an aged look. All her undergarments are made from antique cotton batiste and lace, her tiny corset even has bone.I chose gold and ecru colored antique silk fabrics to make her ensemble since she looks like a little jewel. This is my favorite color combination. Her dress looks very rich and elegant, you can’t help noticing her even though she is a little doll. I also made tiny Bru leather shoes with a ” Bru Jne Paris” stamp on the sole. I thoroughly enjoyed making these little items for this doll. All my future dolls are reserved for customers who are on the waiting list so she already has a new owner. I hope the new owner will enjoy her as much as I did!

Bru shoes and undergarments

I made Bru leather shoes for 12″ Bru! I also realized I have not posted her undies including her tiny corset. Here are photos of her costumes. They are all custom made by me for this doll using antique materials. ( except socks and wig, I did not make them, the wig is an antique mohair wig)
