I was going to take a break for the rest of this year but couldn’t help thinking about dressing this little girl. Before I start on my next doll, I will make a Jumeau dress for this 11 inch Jumeau I made a few years ago. I have picked this antique pink fabric for her. She will be so sweet when she is fully dressed . ( sorry she is not for sale)
My 10-day stay in Japan went by so fast! I was able to update my status of the trip from time to time on FB and Instagram, but this blog could not be updated on my phone due to the complicated format. Now, as for the Velvet Knot Doll Exhibition, I attended the gallery on opening day, and had the opportunity to talk with many online followers, including customers who had come a long way. The new 14 inch Miss Bru was actually not very photogenic under the natural light, so it was difficult to convey her beauty and could not show the actual color of the bisque and dress in the photograph. Most of the guests who came to the show said, “She is more beautiful and has such a powerful presence even though she is smaller than I thought she would be.”
I was very happy to hear that they felt that the actual doll was better than what you see in pictures. This is the best part of an exhibition, isn’t it?
Many visitors came from far away, and some came all the way from overseas. Thank you very much. The venue of the exhibition, the former Adachi residence, was tastefully decorated with antique European furniture and accessories collected by the organizer/ home owner. And the wonderful dolls of the participating artists were displayed in a way that blended well with them. It is a unique setting as a doll exhibition, especially in Japan. Visitors may have felt as if they had gone back in time for 100 years once they entered the venue.
You were able to enjoy not only beautiful dolls but the entire space as being part of this exhibition.
The lottery was held on November 20th and my Bru doll was sold to a lucky winner. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the lottery and visited the exhibition. The exhibition will be open until December 4 and all dolls will be displayed till then. Please do not miss this opportunity!
Here is my newest creation 14” Bru Jne 4 with antique eyes.
I am taking her to Japan with me next week and she will be exhibited and sold at Velvet Knot doll exhibition in Hayama Kanagawa, Japan. Her blue ensemble is made from all antique materials, I also made her Chevrot style body. I made her wig with antique hand tied mohair. I am teaching her Japanese in case she decides to stay there
I finished a hat for 14” Bru. The main fabric is antique aqua colored silk and it’s not matched color with the dress. Yet blue velvet ribbon and feather tie them together. For some reason I thought this color goes well with the dress than using ecru or blue.
This doll will be available at Velvet Knot doll exhibition in Japan from November 18th. #velvetknotdollexhibition
I am leaving for Japan in two weeks and finally finished the Bru dress. ( Hooray!) I have used this design multiple times this year because it looks really nice on Bru dolls. Even though they have the same base design I can still create a different impression by using different colored fabrics and changing small details. I particularly like this cerulean blue silk taffeta which is very hard to find in modern fabric. This blue makes the doll look very special I think.
Even though the deadline is approaching, sometimes I make a dress half way and think, “Huh? It doesn’t look like what I imagined. It doesn’t look right on her“. That’s happening this time
I’m going to start over again by changing the design and color. This Bru definitely looks better in blue than red and gold …
This turquoise blue fabric I will be using is an antique gown from 1870’s silk taffeta. This fabric is very thin and crisp and has beautiful luster and it turns into heavy looking fabric by adding thick cotton backing.
