Eden Bebe head is still in progress, meanwhile I like to introduce this special AT head to everyone.  I received this unique request from one of participant of my event in Japan back in April. She showed me a pair of beautiful antique blue spiral threaded eyes and told me that these eyes were from antique FG doll she used to own. Unfortunately her precious antique doll fell from cabinet during massive earthquake 5 years ago and the doll head was shuttered in pieces. She asked me if I can make a new doll head by using  these eyes. I don’t usually take doll head orders but I accepted to show her my appreciation for participating my event. I took eyes home and tried with several heads to see which mold I can use to fit them. I found out AT head mold would be a perfect candidate and my client agreed with excitement. I finally finished AT head and she actually turned out so much better than I expected once I applied antique eyes. I like to show her photos here to share how beautiful she is including her antique eyes. I am just ecstatic that I was able to bring a new life to these eyes once belong to unfortunate broken doll.  My client emailed me that she has been holding guilty feelings for breaking the doll for last five years even it’s not her fault. She has lost passions for dolls because they bring back her sad memories and remind her disaster at her home town.( She grew up at the area where hit by the earthquake) But she said this new AT head is melting her guilty feelings away and she can now move on and leaving the past behind.  Her story really touched me and I feel so blessed to be able to make changes in someone’s life through my dolls. I like to thank not just her but everyone for showing me all kinds of support through the years. I can continue making dolls because of you!

エデンべべはまだ制作途中ですが、今回は皆さんに画像のAT嬢のヘッドをご紹介したいと思います。4月の大阪でのイベントの際に、参加者のお一人からユニークなご依頼をいただきました。その方は私に素晴らしいアンテイークのグラスアイを見せてくださって、このグラスアイを使って新しいヘッドを作ることはできないだろうか、とご相談されました。現在はオーダーをとっていない状況ですが、イベント参加者への特別オファーということで、このオーダーをお受けしてグラスアイと共に帰国しました。家に帰ってこのグラスアイに合うサイズのヘッドをいろいろ試したところ、ATのヘッドがちょうどよいことが分かり、お客様もそれで納得されたので、さっそく制作に取り掛かかり、先日完成しました。絵付けが仕上がりドキドキしながらアンテイークアイを入れてみたところ、さすがに素晴らしいアイだけに、思った以上にいい出来上がりでお客様にもとても喜んでいただけました。実はこのグラスアイには、お客様の様々な想いが込められていたようです。このグラスアイが入っていたアンテイークドールが5年前の東日本大震災の際に壊れてヘッドが粉々になってしまったこと。以来ずっと罪悪感を抱いていて、お人形に対する情熱が薄れてしまっていたこと。そして何よりも辛いのが、壊れたお人形を見るたびに震災の被害で変わり果てた故郷を思い出してしまうこと。せめてこのグラスアイを使って新しいお人形に生まれ変わらせてあげることができるならば、いままで抱いてきた辛い思いを振り切る事ができるかもしれない、という切実な願いがあったそうです。たかが人形と、興味のない人は思うかもしれませんが、お人形にはオーナーさんそれぞれのいろんな想いが込められているケースが少なくありません。作り手の私としては、作品を通して皆さんに少しでも幸せな瞬間をお届けすることができれば、これ以上嬉しいことはないと思っています。今回のAT嬢の制作は、まさに”作家冥利に尽きる”もので、本当に嬉しかったです。

I started cleaning Eden bebe head today. I am using picture of antique Eden bebe from Palmira Yamazaki collection as my model. She has much larger eyes than common Eden bebe so I adjusted eye cut to larger almond shape. Making opening for open mouth is sort of tricky too. You don’t want her mouth to be opening too wide.

今日は早速エデンべべのヘッドをクリーニングしました。パルミラさん宅のさわ子ちゃんがモデルです。さわ子ちゃんのアイカットはモールドの目より大きいので、大きさを自分で調節することになります。オープンマウスの開け具合もなかなか微妙で、あまりポカーン、といった感じならないよう要注意です。

I marked larger eye line outside of mold eye line with pencil as my guide before make openings.

アイカットをする前に、まずは理想の目の形を鉛筆で描いてガイドラインとして使います。

Here is the cleaned head with eye openings. Will be ready for bisque fire when its dry.

今回は失敗もなく、うまくアイカットができました。乾燥させたらビスク焼成です。

I also poured body mold today. I am trying composition slip from Bell mold first time.

ヘッドのクリーニングをする前に、ボデイーモールドの流し込みもしておきました。今回初めてベルモールド社のコンポジションスリップを使います。

So far so good. It dries pretty fast and I was able to open mold in just two hours after drained.

乾燥時間が割と早いので、排泥をしてから２時間ほどでモールドを開けることができました。

It’s easy to work with since it’s clay based slip.

クレイベースなので、形の修正もラクラクです。

I can separate between fingers just like working with clay.

指の間の隙間も、あっという間にできました。

It’s hard to show in pictures but this slip has pink tone and dries in flesh color. Very nice!

画像ではわかりづらいのですが。スリップはピンク色っぽいグレーで、乾くと肌色になるそうです。

 I was able to accomplish a lot today because there was no mishaps. Wish I have such luck every time. (^^)v

今日はこれといった失敗もなく、スムーズに行きました。いつもこんなだと楽ちんなんですけどね。

Finally! I found time to work on my new doll!  I am so happy to be back on doll making !!     I have made quite few Bru dolls lately so I want to make something different this time.  How about Eden Bebe?  You don’t see very many reproductions of this doll and I have made only once few years ago.

みなさん、お久しぶりです。やっと新作に取り掛かれる時間が見つかりました。うれしいです！この頃Ｂｒｕ嬢ばかり作っていたので、今回は違ったタイプの娘を作りたいと思い、エデンべべにチャレンジすることにしました。

I have a head mold of Eden bebe  to make 17 inch doll. The mold impression was taken from antique Eden bebe looks like this one.

１７インチのエデンべべのモールドを持っているのですが、モールドの原型はこのタイプのエデンべべです。

And I am going to make Eden Bebe looks like this photo below by using the same mold. My goal is to make Eden Bebe looks more like ” Sawako type”.

このモールドを使って、さわ子ちゃんのようなエデンべべを作ってみたいと思います。

今回制作する娘のために、アンテイークのオーバルアイも揃えました。

I had a wonderful opportunity to visit Brimfield MA mega antique market. It was so big and I did not have enough time to check all area but I found lots of doll making materials and fun stuff!  You can view more fun photos from this market from here.

アメリカ東部マサチューセッツ州にあるブリムフィールドという静かな町で年に３回行われる巨大なアンテイークマーケットに行ってきました！あまりに大きすぎて、全部回れる時間がなかったのですが、それでもドールメイキングの材料になる数点を格安なお値段でゲットしました！こちらのリンクからもっといろんな画像が楽しめます。

I just came back form Japan and had the most wonderful time there !                                 Lunch meeting at Osaka Japan was a huge success. I truly appreciate for everyone who came to see me and my new Bru doll. She found a new owner on site and all the struggle I had prior to this trip was well worth it. New Bru doll’s debut moment!  まずは皆さんに新作のＢｒｕ嬢のお披露目から

Then stripped her dress …  そしてどんどんドレスを脱がしていきました。

It is rare occasion to be able to see and feel antique Chevrot body. I wanted everyone to admire this beautiful body created more than 100 years ago. なかなかお目にかかる機会のない１００年以上も前に作られたアンテイークシェブローボデイーを、皆さんに見て触っていただきました。

I talked about tips of bonnet making with quick demonstration by using samples I brought.今回は多数のリクエストがあったボネットつくりのコツなどについて、サンプルを使ってお話しました。

I was bit embarrassed because everyone was checking detail of dresses and undergarment so closely…. ドレスや下着も隅々まで観察されて、ちょっと恥ずかしかったです～。

We had more relaxed time during after-party at near-by cafe. I was able to talk to each guests casually to get to know in person. What a great experience I had! Thank you so much for making this event so memorable !

二次会ではもっとリラックスして、皆さんと身近にお話することが出来ました。素的な時間をありがとうございました。またお会い出来る日を楽しみにしています！

I can’t believe I finally finished the doll just in time to fly to Japan tomorrow! I had such a short notice to have another doll showing event in Japan and had to make a new doll to present. It’s been roller coaster days while I was working on her but she was worth the pain. I am sooo proud of myself for creating such a beautiful doll in short amount of time. I hardly satisfy with my work but she is my pride and joy. I can present her to Japanese fans without any hesitation. It will be so hard to let her go though.

大阪へ連れて行くＢｒｕ嬢がついに完成しました。こんなに短期間で作品を仕上げたのは初めてです。もう身体が持ちませ～ん！でも、おかげで素晴らしい娘が出来ました。自分の作品に満足することはほとんどない私ですが、この娘はどこへ出しても恥ずかしくないほど、とてもよく出来たアンテイークに限りなく近いＢｒｕ嬢です。大阪で皆さんにお披露目するのが今から待ち遠しいです。できればもっとたくさんの皆さんに実際に見ていただきたいですが、海外に住んでいる以上、ちょっと難しいですね。土曜日のイベントに参加の皆さんは、今一度場所や時間などを確認されて、質問があればご連絡ください。私は明日早朝にこちらを出発して水曜日の夕方大阪入りします、なのでお返事は多少遅くなりますが、ご了承くださいね。日本へ着いたら携帯をレンタルするので、私の電話番号が必要な方はメールしてください。それでは大阪でお会いしましょう！

日本行き直前に起こった九州の地震に、大変心を痛めています。

I have never worked this hard to make a doll head in such short amount of time.
But It was worth getting up in the middle of night when kiln temperature is low enough to open so that I could add another layer of paint. I usually paint twice a day if I wait kin to cool down completely but I was able to paint three times a day this time. I now have a Bru head to complete the doll. I am leaving to Japan on Tuesday.

こんなに短期間でヘッドを完成させたのは初めてです。キルンがだいたい冷えた夜中に起きてヘッドを取り出し、また絵付け。。結果一日に３回絵付けすることが出来ました。（普段は一日２回どまりのスピード）　おかげで火曜日の出発に間に合うヘッドが出来ました。まずはほっと一息。

Another opportunity to visit Japan fell in to my lap unexpectedly, I will be visiting Osaka area this month. Despite of my short notice, I was able to organize doll showing meeting , and I have been working hard to finish my next doll for presentation.

She will be 16 inch Bru Jne 6 with antique body with antique eyes. Just as I thought I finished the head today, I found this tiny pin hole at side of her head. Oh, no ~~! I have to pour another head to start all over again … 🙁

大阪ミーテイング用のＢｒｕヘッド、やっと出来た！と思って撮影までしたあとに、ヘッドの右側に小さいピンホールが開いているのに気づきました。。。。ガーン！！また最初から作り直さなければ。。。

あっという間に日々は過ぎてしまい、大阪行きまであと一ヶ月もありません。今日は、大阪へ連れて行くＢｒｕ嬢のヘッドの磨きをし、アンテイークボデイーを調整しているところです。今回使うボデイーは画像のようにショルダープレートからつま先まで、すべてオリジナルのアンテイークシェブローボデイーです。ただ、腕がビスクではなく、木製です。レアといえばレアですが、もしこの作品を当日購入希望の方で、ビスクアームのほうがいいというリクエストがあれば、このボデイーに合ったビスクアームを作りますので、ご連絡ください。

ミレットのヘッドも同時に作っています。出来がよければ大阪へ一緒に持って行きます。ヘッドのみの販売、もしくはそのヘッドを使っての完成品のオーダーのチョイスも考えています。
