If you have soft spot for ethnic doll, you are going to enjoy my newest creation 17 inch Black Bru Jne  reproduction doll.  I don’t make ethnic Bru very often but when I do, I want to make sure she is extra special.  This Black Bru is very special because she has an antique black kid body and antique brown PW eyes. These antique materials are extremely hard to find and I am very happy that I was able to put them together to create this one- of- a- kind doll.

もしエスニックドールが特に好き！という方がいらっしゃったら、今回の新作17インチブラックBru嬢をとても楽しんでいただけるのではないかと思います。私はエスニックBruはめったに作りませんが、作るときは特別な娘になるよう心がけています。今回のブラックBru嬢はアンテイークのブラックキッドボデイーとアンテイークの茶目スパイラルスレッドアイという、とても手に入りにくいレアな材料を使った特別な一点物の作品です。

I painted her bisque darker than Mulatto Bru since she is a black doll.  Her caramel brown eyes and skin tone are almost the same color.

今回のBru嬢はブラックドールということで、ムラトーよりは濃い目に肌色の絵付けをしました。肌の色とカラメル色のアンテイークアイとは、ほとんど同じ色合いです。

Her dress is a classic Bru style drop waist dress. I think this design fits perfectly on plump Bru kid body. I used antique silk fabric with unique pattern for her jacket. This fabric did not fit on any other dolls I have made in the past and it was sitting in my closet for a long time. But it looks perfect on this Black Bru so I believe it was meant to be.

ウエストがぽっちゃりしたタイプのBruキッドボデイーには、やはり定番のローウェストのデザインが一番ぴったりくると思います。ジャケット部分に使われたアンテイークのシルク地は、かわった柄だけに今まで使える作品が無く、ずっとクローゼットの中に眠っていました。今回このブラックBruに合わせてみたところぴったりだったので、きっと彼女のために出番を待っていたのだと思います。

Back side of the jacket has puffed up bustle.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　  ジャケット後ろ部分には膨らみのあるバッスルスタイルのデザインを取り入れました。

The dress opens up from one side and has hook-and-eye closure. The actual color of the skirt and front panel is teal green.

ドレスは片側から全開できるようになっていて、フックアンドアイで留めるようになっています。フロントパネルとスカート地は、他の画像では良くわかりませんが深い緑色です。

Base of the bonnet is a straw hat and the rest is decorated with antique silk ribbons and vintage millinery flowers.

ボネットのベースはムギワラ帽子です。アンテイークのシルクリボンや、ビンテージの布花で飾り付けました。

Bru undergarment and shoes. These lovely chemise and drawers are made with antique cotton batiste and lace, accented with salmon pink ribbons. Bru style leather shoes are also hand made by me.

下着はすべてアンテイークの綿ローンとレースでできていて、アクセントにサーモンピンクのリボンをあしらいました。このタイプのデザインは、ローウェストのドレスと相性がいいです。靴は黒い革製で、これも私の手作りです。

Her body is an antique black Bru kid body. Both arms and shoulder plate are my reproductions to match antique part of the body. Her kidskin lags have extensive patching repair due to fragile old leather. Her wig is a black mohair and I made the wig this time.

ボデイーは珍しいブラックBru用のキッドボデイーです。腕とショルダープレートはアンテークの胴体とマッチするように私が作りました。足部分は古い革がかなり弱っているため、たくさんの補強が施されています。ウィッグは黒毛のモヘアウィッグで、今回は私が作りました。

I finished underwear and shoes for my black Bru doll this week. I spent little extra time to make these fancy chemise and drawers. They are made with antique cotton batiste and accented with pink ribbon with insertion lace covering over ribbon.

今週はブラックBru嬢の下着と靴を作りました。今回は下着にもちょっと時間をかけて、画像のようなファンシーな仕上がりにしてみました。素材はアンテイークのコットンバテイーストですが、アクセントにピンクのリボンをインサーションレースで覆ったデザインを取り入れました。

I made classic Bru style shoes with black lambskin. Socks are vintage black ribbed socks.靴は定番のBruスタイルの黒革靴です。靴下はビンテージの黒いシルクニット製です。

I have been planning to make a straw hat for my black Bru since I decided to create her.     I  rarely use straw hat for my dolls and I’ve always wanted to make one by myself.  I think it turned out pretty well as a fist timer. What to you think?

このブラックBru嬢を作ると決めた時から、ボネットはストローハット、と決めていました。私は作品にはストローハットをあまり使わないので、ぜひいつか自分で作ってみたいと思っていました。初めてにしてはまずまずの出来だと思うのですが、どうでしょう？　まずは、その工程をちょっとご紹介します。

I used this hat mold and vintage straw braid. 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　今回は市販のハットモールドを使用、ストローブレードはビンテージの鈍い色の物を選びました。

Gluing skinny braid is actually VERY HARD. I will pick wider braid next time.　　　　　　しかし、細いブレードは糊付けするのに一苦労・・・次回はもっと太いので作ります。（反省）

Remove hat from the mold after all gluing is done.Let it dry till hat becomes stiffer.　　　全部糊付けしたら、モールドからはずして硬くなるまで乾燥させます。

Choosing decoration is the most fun part! 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　飾りを選んだりする時が実は一番楽しい!

I picked these antique brown silk ribbon and vintage millinery flowers as  main decoration.今回は、このアンテイークのシルクリボンと、ビンテージの布花をメインの飾りにします。

Added more flowers and lace in front .. I try different types of decorations as I make hat and pick the most appropriate combination.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　フロント部分にさらにレースと小さめのワックスフラワーなどをあしらいました。作りながらいろんな飾りを試して、一番しっくりくるデザインを選びます。出来上がりはこうなりました。

I still have to make shoes and under garment. I will reveal Black Bru in early July. Please look forward!

まだ靴と、下着作りが残っているので、作品の完成はもう少し先になります。7月上旬のお披露目を予定してます。お楽しみに!

Okay, I finally finished the dress for my 17 inch black Bru Jne !                                             It’s a classic drop waist Bru dress with very simple decorations. Because she has an antique Bru kid body, I wanted to make authentic look Bru dress that you would find on antique Bru dolls. It may not a dress that stands out so much by itself but it will look ” right” when I put it on my black Bru doll.  Next project is a bonnet!

ブラックBru嬢のドレスが完成しました!　典型的なドロップウェストのBruスタイルドレスです。今回のブラックBruにはアンテイークのキッドボデイーを使用しているので、アンテイークのBruが着ているような、ごてごてした飾りの無いシンプルなデザインをあえて選びました。さて次はボネット制作に取り掛かります！

The silk fabric I used for the front panel and skirt is teal green color ( bit brighter than this ) but my camera could not pick up the true color.

フロントパネルとスカート部分は、もうちょっと明るめの深いエメラルドグリーンなのですが、残念ながら私のカメラではその色が出ませんでした。

The actual color of green silk fabric looks more like this photo below. Hope I can give you better idea with this one.

グリーンのシルクは、下の画像のほうが実際の色に近いです。

I’v always wanted to make large C Steiner doll with full round face. Well, my wish finally came true! I purchased a new mold of C Steiner recently and made a bisque head first time. I used antique dark blue eyes for this special girl and she turned out be soooo cute!   I just love her! I made this doll to be a part of my personal collection and she is not for sale. But someday in future, another C Steiner doll may be available. She is a large size 24 inch doll. I just wanted to introduce her as part of my new creation.

ずっと丸顔の大きいスタイナーを作ってみたかったのですが、ついに願いがかないました!　最近このCスタイナーのモールドが手に入ったので、今回初めてヘッドを作ってみました。特別な娘のために取っておいたダークブルーのアンテイークアイを入れてみたところ、とても可愛くなりました。想像したとおりの愛いらしい娘に出来上がったので、この場でぜひ皆さんに紹介したいともいます。ただ、この娘は私の個人のコレクション用に制作したもので、非売品です。いつか機会があれば、この娘と同じモールドで作った２４インチのスタイナーを販売できたらいいなと思っています。

One of the reason I decided to make this black Bru doll is I acquired an antique black Bru kid body few month ago. Finding antique Bru body to fit on the head mold I have is hard enough but finding black antique body is an extremely rare occasion. I could not pass this opportunity. However, this body has missing shoulder plate. Leather on upper arms and bisque lower arms were severely damaged. The lower legs have extensive repair. So I made bisque shoulder plate and arms, and of course the Bru head to fit on this body.

ブラックBru嬢を作り始めたもともとの理由と言うのが、何ヶ月か前にこのアンテイークのブラックBruキッドボデイを見つけたからです。手持ちのモールドに合うアンテイークのボデイを見つけるだけでも大変なのに、ブラックボデイを見つけるなんてなかなかあるご縁ではありません。ぜひ、このボデイを使ってリプロを作ってみたいと思いました。　　　　　　　　　　　ただ、このボデイには難がかなりありまして、ショルダープレートはすでに無く、腕のレザーはボロボロ、ビスクアームも指が欠け、膝下部分にはかなりのリペアが施してあります。なので、私のほうでショルダープレート、上腕、下腕、そしてもちろんこのボデイに合うヘッドを作ることとなったわけです。

Her brown spiral threaded eyes are also antique.　                                                              このスパイラルスレッドの入った茶目もアンテイークです。

This photos was taken after the third firing of skin tone. It’s pretty dark so I stopped right here.　３回目の肌色絵付け後。かなり濃くなったのでこの辺で止めました。

I painted eyebrows …. 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　眉毛を入れました。

I did touch up of eyebrows and added more lip color. I painted cheek color but the color does not appear in photo. Too bad.                                                                                       眉毛のタッチアップをして、リップカラーも濃くしました。チークも塗ったのですが、写真には写ってきませんでした。

I temporary set antique brown eyes to see how she looks. I think she is pretty cute.　 What do you think?                                                                                                                    アンテイークの茶目のグラスアイを入れてみました。なかなか可愛い感じに出来上がったと思いますが、皆さんはどう思いますか？

I have been working on black Bru head for last couple of weeks. I opened kiln this morning and looked at the result of third firing of skin tone and it looks pretty good to me.

この２週間ほど、ブラックBruのヘッド制作を行っていました。今朝キルンを開けて３回目の肌色の絵付けを確認してみたところ、なかなかいい感じなっていたので画像をアップします。

After second firing ( it looks shiny because I already applied medium to paint next skin tone).  ２回目の肌色絵付け後（次の肌色をのせるためミデイウムを塗ってしまった後に撮影したのでテカッています）

After third firing. It looks pretty dark to me. I think I will stop here.　　　　　　　　　　　３回目の肌色絵付け焼成後。かなり濃くなったので、この辺で止めます。
