When I get stressed out, I like to dig in my junk box ( box with extra doll heads that did not get used in the past) and play with these doll heads. I am constantly looking for and buying doll eyes and like to try them with different heads I have. Many doll heads do not look right with certain eyes. On the other hand, if I can find perfect eyes to match the head, she suddenly becomes so gorgeous.

I found this Bru head I made in 2010. I don’t remember why she ended up in my junk box because it’s been four years since I made her. Maybe her coloring was not right. She has very pink skin tone and I was making dolls with much paler coloring back then. Maybe glass eyes that customer requested did not look right with this head. Anyway,her facial paint looks good and I don’t see any flaws on the bisque, so I decided to try on these antique blue eyes I acquired recently. Wow, I was amazed how beautiful she turned out!

I especially like how her lips are painted. This particular mold has huge space between upper and lower lips and if I don’t paint right, she would have frightened or screaming look.But I was able to paint her ” tongue” instead of giving her screaming look.I mean, more I look at her more I love about her!  She makes me so excited and makes me want to create a complete doll with this head. I even know what dress I should make. She really speaks to me.

I hosted our local UFDC doll club ( Sierra Nevada Doll Club) meeting in my house this week and we made Easter Egg Doll Box. Each member brought their own decoration supplies so that we can share and exchange ideas and tips. It’s always more fun to do this  kind of program in group. It’s a great learning opportunity.

今週は私の家で、地元ドールクラブのミーテイングを行い、プログラムに皆でイースターのエッグドールボックスを作りました。メンバーそれぞれが材料を持ち寄り、アイデアや材料を交換しながら楽しく工作をしました。こういうのはやはりグループで楽しく作るほうが、学べることがたくさんあって充実していますよね。

You can create egg box not only for Easter but any occasions. This Halloween egg box is a great example. 

This wonderful egg box is created by our member miniature doll artist Barbara Williams.

I will be hosting our local doll club monthly meeting next week and we will be making Easter Egg doll box. I just made a sample Egg Box myself ( my Bru doll project is on hold this week) and like to share pictures on this blog.

私が所属する地元のドールクラブのミーテイングを来週家でするので、今回はイースターのエッグボックスを作ることにしました。Bruの制作は今週はお休みして、サンプルとなるエッグボックスを作ったので、ここでご紹介したいと思います。

You can use any materials you like to decorate the blank paper mache egg and I decided to use German dye-cut vinatage Easter prints and Dresden paper trim.

材料やテーマはお好みで何でもいいのですが、私はドイツ製のビンテージイースタープリントを使うことにしました。

Paint the outside of egg shell with blue-gray color and glued dye-cut images on top, then applied decoupage solution. Finished with crackle with gold stain to give aged look.

エッグの表面をブルーグレイのアクリル絵の具で塗って、その上からダイカットをぺたぺた張ります。そして表面にデコパージュ液を塗り、乾いたらクラックル液を塗って、ゴールドの絵の具を薄く塗りこんでビンテージな風合いを出します。

There is a little 4 inch bisque Bunny Baby inside the egg! This Bunny baby was a gift from my friend and he is a perfect size to fit in this 6 inch long egg. I made the bed to fit inside the egg and placed a bunny and his friends around him. He is holding tiny basket with tiny eggs. This will be a fun Easter doll project to do by yourself or with friends.

エッグの中には、４インチ（１０ｃｍ）の小さなバニーちゃんが入っています。このバニーちゃんは私のお友達からのプレゼントで、６インチのエッグボックスのぴったりのサイズです。エッグの中にはまるようベッドを作って、そこへバニーちゃんと彼のお友達を飾りました。バニーちゃんは小さなエッグが入ったバスケットを持っています。イースターにぴったりの楽しいプロジェクトです。ぜひ、作ってみてください。

Julien Martinez is a very talented doll artist in France. I made this Bru doll without dress for her few years ago and Juliean added “teeth” on her mouth.She also created this fabulous dress to complete. I have never seen my Bru doll with teeth. It’s very interesting approach and she succeeded. Congratulations Julien!

ジュリエン.マーテイネスさんは、フランスのビスクドール作家さんです。何年か前に私のBru嬢をドレス無しでお迎えいただいたのですが、このたび作品が完成したそうなので画像を送ってくださいました。驚いたことに、彼女はBru嬢の口に小さな“歯”を付け足していました。”歯”のついたBruJneを見たのは これが初めてです。型破りな発想ですが、素晴らしいドレスと合わさって、とても素敵に仕上がっています。

I don’t usually repair antique bodies and I have never repaired wooden legs of antique Chevrot body. I wasn’t even sure if this method will work but it did!  I took pictures of footage of my repair work this time and I like to share with everyone. Hope it will provide some hint to someone who is planing to repair wooden legs in future.

普段はアンテイークボデイーのリペアはやらないのですが、今回アンテイークシェブローボデイの木製の足部分のリペアにチャレンジしてみました。もちろんこれが初めてです。一応頭の中で、使えそうな修理法は考えていたのですが、なんと、見事に成功しました。その過程を画像にとっておいたので、参考になれば嬉しいです。

Left toes are completely missing.

I used Duncan doll composition clay to make missing toes. Poured  in leg mold with similar size.

Tracing toe shape from right foot.

Then traced shape of broken edge

Trace the edge line on clay and cut off toes from the line.

Attach clay to broken foot.

Carve toes with scalpel and stylus .

Round the edge with wet soft brush.

Let it dry till clay becomes harder.

Remove clay from the foot.

Bake clay in the oven to cure. Duncan clay does not shrink like porcelain.

Glue composition toe with wood glue.

Paint base skin color.

Paint Shellac over skin color.

Sand around toes to give antique look. Ta-da~~!! Looks pretty good to me!

I purchased this antique Chevrot body a month ago and it finally came!  I was going to use this body for my next Bru I already started making head. The body measures 12 inch tall so I thought 16 inch Bru Jne 6 head would fit on this body.. Well, it turned out Bru Jne 6 head is bit too small for the body. ( Oh no! I already bisque fired the head!)   I am changing my plan to make Bru Jne 11 head instead. It seems Bru Jne 11 head ( usually for 19 inch doll) fits on this body. The finished doll size will be about 17 inch tall.

一ヶ月ほど前に、このアンテイークシェブローボデイーを購入したのですが、昨日やっと届きました。ボデイーの背丈が１２インチということだったので、今製作中のBruJne6のヘッドが合うと思ったのですが、なんと、実際に合わせてみたら6号ヘッドは小さすぎました。（ガーン！もうすでにヘッドは焼成済み）しかたないので、プランの変更です。19インチ用のBurJne11ヘッドがなんとかこのボデイーに合うようなので、これからBruJne11のヘッドを作ります。完成サイズは17インチくらいになりそうです。

The body does not have bisque SP and arms. I am going to make replacement.                このボデイーはショルダープレートとビスクアームは付いていないので、私が作ります。

Left toes are broken. I am going to repair this part. 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　左の足の部分が欠けているので、リペアをします。

A piece of bisque shoulder plate was attached by a nail. I am saving this bisque fragment to match the skin tone color.                                                                                                  ショルダープレートは釘で固定されています。このビスク部分は、絵付けの色あわせの参考にとっておきます。

Inside the torso is firmly packed with granulated cork. Fairly large block of wood is hinged from hip joint to keep body posture straight. 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　胴体は顆粒状のコルクかしっかりと詰められています。胴体の中心には、思った以上に大きいサイズの木片が埋め込まれていました。これがボデイーをまっすぐに立たせる支えになっています。

Before I start cleaning, I drew eye shape with pencil.                 　　　　　　              　  ウェットクリーニングを始める前に、作りたい目の形の輪郭を鉛筆で描きます。　　　　　

This photo is after I cleaned and cut eye holes. I dried this soft-fired greenware head and now ready for bisque fire.                                                                                                       ソフト焼きをしたヘッドのクリーニングが終わり、アイカットもうまく出来ました。ヘッドを乾燥させて次はビスク焼成です。

I started working on new doll head. My next doll will be 16 inch Bru Jne 6. This mold is one of my favorites but cutting eyes on this doll head is rather tricky. Shapes of both eyes are much larger than what I want and they are uneven. I have made very unattractive doll in the past by cutting eye holes by following mold line. In order to create more attractive eyes, I usually erase lower eye line by smoothing the surface with wet soft brush right after I open the mold.This procedure has to be done when the greenware is still wet. Once greenware is softfired, I draw the shape of eyes that I like with pencil and cut it open.

次の作品は１６インチのBruJne６号です。昨日から流し込みを始めました。このモールドは、私の好きなモールドのひとつですが、アイカットをうまく作るのがちょっと難しいです。というのも、モールドラインに沿ってアイカットを開けると、目の大きさが左右ちぐはぐなビミョウに可愛くないお顔が出来上がってしまいます。それを解消するために、このモールドを使うときは、私は目の下のアイラインをわざと消します。モールドを開けてすぐ、まだグリーンウエアが湿っているうちに、水に浸した習字用の筆でひたすらモールドラインをなぞって消していきます。ラインが大体消せたらソフト焼きをして、新たに好きな目の形を鉛筆で描き、それに沿ってアイカットをします。

Erasing lower eye line with wet soft brush when the greenware is still wet.　　　　　　　目の下のアイラインを水に浸した習字用の筆でなぞって消しているところ。これはグリーンウェアがまだ湿っている状態の時に行います。

Lower eye lines are not so visible anymore. I can make different shape of eyes now.        目の下のアイラインがかなりぼやけました。これで、別な形のアイホールが作れます。

It’s been 5 month since I started working on this 23 inch Jumeau Triste and she is finally completed! I have been posting bits and pieces of her parts and dress and probably made you crazy. 🙂 Now you can finally view her complete look. ( I hope all of you are excited!) Because of strong contrast of her dark color jacket and ecru skirt, she was extremely difficult to photograph. Also my camera tend to exaggerate blue color of her eyes and red tone of her human hair, it almost looked like she has orange red hair with extremely blue eyes. Her dark green jacket has lighter emerald green tone than picture but I am unable to capture the true color with my camera. So I like you to imagine that she has less red tone on the wig and less blue tone on her eyes, and more emerald green tone on the jacket. 🙂   Boy, that is so confusing!

去年の10月にこのトリステの制作に入って、なんと5ヶ月も経ってしまいました。これまでにパーツのみをアップしていましたが、今日やっと完成品をお披露目することができます。今日は一日撮影に入っていましたが、未熟な私の技術では、コントラストの強いグリーンのジャケットとアイボリーのスカートの色合いがうまく出せず、朝から丸一日かかって撮影していました。しかも、私のカメラはどうもウィッグの赤みと、目の色の青を強調しすぎるようで、オートで撮影すると、燃えるような赤い髪にものすごい青い眼、お顔の色が真っ白で、黒いジャケットを着たお人形が映ってしまいます。（トホホ）実際の作品は、ウィッグの色がもう少し赤みがかっていなくて、目の色も青がそれほど強くなく、ジャケットのグリーンはもう少しエメラルドグリーンが入った色です。画像にこれらの想像を入れてご覧ください。

I used all antique materials to make this dress. As I posted in my blog before, ecru silk was from antique wedding gown from Edwardian era.I hope the original owner of the gown will be happy with the way this dress turned out.

ドレスの素材はすべてアンテイークです。以前ブログでご紹介したように、アイボリーのシルクは、アンテイークのウェデイングドレスを解体して使ったものです。ウェデイングドレスのオーナー様も、どうかこのドレスの出来に満足してくれているといいのですが。。。

I used antique blue eyes for this Triste head. These eyes are so beautiful and in great shape but unfortunately they did not fit on any of my Bru head mold I have. But perfect fit for this Triste head mold and I am happy that I was able to make a doll with these eyes. Her lace bonnet is also hand made by me. All materials are antique except the silk ribbon on top.

このトリステのヘッドには、アンテイークアイが使われています。とても状態がいいアンテイークアイなので、できればBruに使いたかったのですが、残念ながら手持ちのBruヘッドには形が合いませんでした。幸いトリステのモールドにはぴったりだったので、この娘が出来上がりました。レースボネットも私の手作りです。トップのシルクリボン以外はすべてアンテークの素材で出来ています。

She also has antique Jumeau body with straight wrist, just like antique Triste would have. The body is newly strung and has aged wears and paint chips at joints.

ボデイーは、アンテイークのトリステと同じようにストレートリストのジュモウボデイーを使っています。ゴム引きを新しくしましたが、年齢によるペイントの欠けや傷があります。

Her undergarments are five pieces as you see on photo below. I made them from antique cotton fabrics and lace.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　下着は全部で５ピースです。すべてアンテイークのコットンとレースで作りました。

I made her shoes with black leather. Socks are vintage cotton socks.　　　　　　　　　画像の ジュモーシューズも私の手作りです。靴下はコットンのビンテージです。
