UFDC Doll News Magazine Winter issue

If you are a member of UFDC you probably received our quarterly magazine     ” Doll News” by now.
The cover is one of Friendship doll Ichimatsu Ningyo “Miss Wakayama”.  Anyone familiar with her face?
She is displayed at our Nevada Historical Society museum permanent exhibition in Reno Nevada.
Our local doll club took a field trip to the museum to study about her back in 2009.  This winter issue of Doll News magazine contains fabulous article of Friendship dolls by Alan Scott Pate.
Not only that, it features my friend Dale Rensing’s article ” Elements of Style” which talks about antique bebe dresses and their historical back ground.      Dale used two of my dolls as mannequin to showcase her bebe dress on her article. I am extremely honored that my dolls were features on Doll News magazine.

日本でもしUFDCの会員の方がいらっしゃれば、今回の会報ドールニュースは届きましたでしょうか？表紙を飾っているのは、平田郷陽氏による市松人形です。この娘に見覚えはありませんか？彼女は、私が住んでいるリノのネバダヒストリカルソサエテイー博物館に常時展示されているフレンドシップドールなのです。2009年に地元のドールクラブで見学に行ったときの事を、以前ブログでもお伝えしました。今回のドールニュースには、アラン.スコット.ペイト氏によるフレンドシップドールの素晴らしい記事が載っています。
そして、私の友人でもあるデール.レンシングがフレンチべべドールのドレスの歴史について解説してある記事も載っています。記事の中では、彼女の作ったドレスを着た私のBruの写真も載せていただきました。ありがとうございました。
この雑誌はUFDC会員にのみ発行される会報なので、一般には手に入りません。
もしお知り合いの方で会報を持っていらっしゃる方がいれば、見せてもらってください。

AM Googly 241 prototype

This is something I have never done before. Making a doll smaller than 14 inches.               She is AM Googly 241 reproduction doll and she is only 7.5 inches tall.                                 She has a tiny composition body and I made everything from scratch. Making such a small dress was also a chore. I almost had spasm on my fingers. ( That’s why I don’t usually make small dolls..)  But she turned out very cute and I received a biggest complement from my family. LOL   I made her as a Christmas gift for my dear friend so she is not for sale. I may make some for sale in future if I have extra time. We will see …                           I just thought people may enjoy seeing her photos. She has a shy but very sweet smile to warm your heart !                                                                                                                     Happy Holidays everyone!

*************************************************************************************************今回は私の初挑戦の娘をご紹介します。　AMグーグリー241モールドの娘です。　　　　今まで14インチ以下のサイズは作ったことがなかったので、この7.5インチの娘はちょっと難しかったですよ。ボデイーも小さいコンポジション製で、パーツの流し込みをするのに結構手間取りました。パーツの中身を空洞に型抜きしなければならないんですが、小さいモールドの場合、それがなかなか難しいのです。しかも、こんな小さなドレスも作ったことがないので、指がつるかと思いました。（だから普段は小さい娘は作らないんですが。。）　　　　　　　おかげさまで、初めての割には可愛く出来上がりました。なぜか家族（男性二人）には大ヒットで、今まで作った人形で一番良い出来だ、とか言われました。（ちょっとガーン）

この娘は販売用ではなく、今回特別にお友達のクリスマスプレゼント用に作りました。　　　いつか機会があれば、販売用に制作するかもしれません。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　とりあえず画像だけですが、皆さんに楽しんでもらえたら嬉しいと思います。　　　　　　　それでは、どうか素敵なクリスマスをお迎えください。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　来年も引き続きよろしくお願いいたします。

I picked a winner of 16 inch “Ready-to-Dress” Bru Jne 6 this morning and it has been notified to the buyer.  If you did not get email from me by now, unfortunately you did not win her. I received quite a few applications this time again and I like to thank all of them who wish to purchased her.

She was my last doll I can offer this year. I will be making a new doll from January and planing to make larger doll next time. I will be bloging process of making new doll again so please look forward!

Jewel Of The Opera Garnier by Dale Rensing

My dear friend and owner of “Ages Designs,” Dale Rensing, has published her first children’s book called “Jewel of The Opera Garnier.”                                                       Dale is a talented doll dress-maker who also collects a few of my dolls. She uses one of my Bru dolls as her dress model on her website.                                                              The main character, “Jewel” in her book, is inspired by another 16- inch Bru Jne 6 I made for her in 2009.                                                                                                                          If you know how each of the American Girl dolls comes with her own story book,  “Jewel of The Opera Garnier” is a similar piece of historical fiction.  In this story a little girl living in Paris dreams of becoming a ballerina.                                                                                   It is a very heart- warming story and takes you back to being a little girl as you turn each page. I am extremely honored that my doll was an inspiration for this book.

Dale explains how “Jewel” came alive in her mind:

“Those who collect the dolls of Sayuri Sinn do so because they are special in so many ways. Their distinct unique quality is not just that they come so close to reproducing the look of the original antique Bru’s, but that they also evoke a similar feel. The Bru Jne, particularly of the Chevrot period, came so close to what the doll artists of today continually strive to achieve – that pensive, imploring look of a real child. Miss Diva is now SOLD

Hi everyone.  I truly appreciate for overwhelming number of people applied to purchase Miss Diva. I wish I could make the same doll for each one of you ….                                     Well, I had to pick one person to take her home and the winner has been announced this morning. I emailed the winner already so if you did not get email from me by now, unfortunately Miss Diva did not pick you.

Again, I truly appreciate for everyone who gave me lovely email to tell me how much they wanted the doll. It really touched me.                                                                                       I was not going to work on new doll till next year but I may be able to list Bru head #1 (remember?) with a body but no dress for sale before Christmas. Maybe I can give one more person a happy Christmas … ??? We will see …

I have been blogging her progress since July so anyone who has been fallowing may already know detail about her.
I am revealing her final photos including ” surprise” item this time.
Let me go over her description I posted on my website once again to refresh your memory.

みなさんこんにちは。

待ちに待った16インチアンテークアイBruJne6が、いよいよ今週販売になります。
7月からブログにて作品の進行状況を掲載しているので、すでにこの娘についてご存知の方は大勢いらっしゃるかと思います。
今回は、さっそく完成品の画像と、”おまけ”のお披露目をしたいと思います。
それではまず、作品の詳細についてもう一度おさらいしましょう。

I have been making reproduction Bru dolls for more than 10 years, and this doll turned out to be the best one I have ever made.
It all started with her ” antique eyes”. I was very fortunate to be able to find this pair of antique glass eyes with gorgeous spiral thread which are extremely hard to find.
I painted her face extra carefully to give the authentic look of antique Bru including pink skin tones and shape of eyebrows and lips.
I engraved my name and date as ” Sayuri 2012″ at the back of her head. She has pierced ears through her ear robes from top to the bottom and vintage blue glass earrings are included.
She comes with reproduction of Chevrot style body with hinges at elbows and knees.The outside of her torso is made with leather, and I used granulated cork to stuff the body firmly. There are also metal hip joints inside.
Her lower arms and breast plate are bisque, and lower legs are made of composition. I stained the leather part and composition legs to give aged look.
Her gorgeous pale-blonde mohair wig is created by Wendy Feidt. However I had to restyle the wig a few times during photo shooting because the curls became loose.
This 16-inch Bru doll seems to have a “Diva” like attitude. I even had to make her an extra dress to keep her happy.
She comes with Bru style jacket dress in gold and red with matching red bonnet. A blue silk taffeta dress with silk chiffon bonnet is her second dress. They are both made from all antique materials including buttons and beads.
She has 4 pieces of undergarment including corset.I made combination underwear and petticoat with antique cotton batiste and cotton lace. Then she has bustle pad to give skirt volume.Her small corset is made from antique silver silk and heavy weight cotton. It also has tiny bones to keep her waist in narrow shape.
Her shoes are Bru style black leather shoes with silver buckle at toe tip. They have ” Bru Jne Paris” stamp at the sole. Her socks are not antique but I hand dyed silk socks to black.

私がBru のリプロを作り始めて10年以上経ちますが、この娘は今まで作った中で一番満足のいく出来上がりとなりました。
それのすべては彼女につけた”アンテイークアイ”のおかげです。探すのが特に難しいスパイラルのアンテークアイが手に入ったのは、本当にラッキーでした。そのグラスアイに似合うよう、絵付けも今回は特別な注意を払って行いました。
肌は私が普段塗るよりももっとピンク色に絵付けし、眉毛の形や色、唇の形などもアンテイークに忠実になるよう描きました。
耳たぶにはピアスホールが縦に入っており、ヘッドの後ろには”SAYURI　2012”と彫ってあります。ビンテージのブルーのガラスビーズイヤリングは付属品です。
ボディーは私が作ったシェブロースタイルボディーで、ひじと膝に間接があります。胴体の外側には本革を使用、中身は顆粒状のコルクを硬く詰めました。ヒップにはメタルの間接があります。
ビンテージの雰囲気を出すために革の部分と膝下のコンポジションレッグには、アンテイーク加工してあります。ブレストプレートと、ひじ下のBruアームはビスクです。
ペールブロンドのモヘアウッグは、ウィッグ作家のウェンデイーさんによるものです。ただ、撮影中に何度もボネットを脱がせたためカールが崩れてしまったので、オリジナルの状態からスタイリングをしてあります。
この娘はちょっと”ディーバ”っぽいわがままな性格なようで、このお嬢様を満足させるために、今回は特別お着替えも用意いたしました。
一着目はゴールドのシルクジャケットに赤いスカートのBruスタイルジャケットドレスに、おそろいの赤いボネット。二着目はブルーのシルクタフタでできたプリンセススタイルのワンピースに、シルクシフォンのボネットです。ドレスに使った材料は、飾りのボタンやビーズにいたるまですべてアンテイークです。
下着は四つのピースでできています。一番下にはシミーズとドロワーズのコンビネーション、その上にペチコートを履いています。ペチコートの下にはスカートにふくらみを出すためのバッスルパッドをつけています。さらにウェストには、シルバーのシルクでできたコルセットを着けています。もちろん下着に使ったコットンやレースもすべてアンテイークです。
靴は、黒革製のBruスタイルシューズで、シルバーのバックルをつけました。ソックスは現代物ですが、黒に手染めしてあります。

She has this “Diva” like attitude with a red and gold Bru style dress. On the other hand, she seem sweeter with a blue dress.
You can enjoy two types of dolls out of this one special girl. How fun is that!
And here is ” surprise item” I made especially for her.
お着替えすると雰囲気もずいぶん変わりますね。
ゴールドと赤のジャケットドレスでは”ディーバ”っぽい雰囲気ですが、ブルーのドレスではちょっとやさしい感じになります。
ひとつのドールで二倍の楽しみが味わえて、お着替えがとても楽しいですよ。
さて、ではここからは”おまけ”のお披露目画像です。
It’s a Victorian style gift box to store this precious doll and her dresses.
I decoupage surface with crackle finish to give vintage look. It will be a perfect gift box to open on Christmas day to make you feel like a little girl all over again.
おまけは、お着替えと一緒にお人形も大切にしまえるビクトリアンスタイルのギフトボックスです。箱の表面をデコパージュして、クラックル加工しました。クリスマスの朝に開けたら、まるで子供のころに戻ったような気分にさせてくれる素敵なギフトボックスです。

Corset and underwear

Long waited eyelet pliers came today and I finished my corset finally!                                   I used antique silver silk fabric for outside and heavy antique cotton for inside. 　　　　　Of course it has tiny bones just like human size corset.

アイレットセッターが今日やっと届いたので、さっそくコルセットの仕上げにかかりました。　　表に使った生地はアンテイークのシルバーカラーのシルクで、内側は厚手のアンテイークコットンです。もちろんリアルサイズのコルセットと同じく、小さいボーンも入っています。
All lace trims and silk ribbon are also antique…                                                                    デコレーションに使ったレースやリボンもすべてアンテイークです。

I am letting little Miss Diva to be a model for her underwear.                                                Bru 嬢に下着のモデルをやっていただきました。

She is wearing petticoat and combinations made from antique cotton batiste and antique cotton lace. There are antique shell buttons at the back.

コルセットの下には、アンテイークのコットンバテイーストとアンテイークレースでできたコンビネーションとペチコートをつけています。後ろにはアンテイークの貝殻でできたボタンがついています。

She is also wearing bustle pad underneath of petticoat.                                                       その下にはさらに、スカートのふくらみを出すためのバッスルパッドがついています。

Now the doll is finally completed!!!!                                                                                         I am working on to add her on catalog of my website and making one more surprise to make this doll extra special.  I will reveal it when she becomes available. I am hoping to put her for sale sometime late next week. I will post detail of how she will be sold and photos of finished product in my next blog entry.  Thank you everyone for waiting so long for this doll to be completed. I hope all of you enjoyed seeing each steps of how I make my dolls.

これでついに、Bru嬢が完成しました！（長かった～）　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　今現在、この娘をHPのカタログに載せる作業中です。それともうひとつ、この娘のためにスペシャルなおまけも作っています。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　できれば来週の末ぐらいには販売したいのですが、それも作業の経過しだいです。次回のブログで完成品の画像のお披露目と、販売方法などを載せますのでお楽しみに～。　　　　長らくお付き合いくださり、本当にありがとうございました。私の作品製作過程もお楽しみいただけたでしょうか。。。

 

Photo shooting

I finished underwear but still working on corset. I forgot that I needed new eyelet pliers to set eyelet at the back of corset so I am waiting for my pliers to be delivered.               Meanwhile I decided to take photos of Miss Diva today. Photo shooting is always time consuming. It often takes half day or more depends on the lighting situation. Miss Diva has two dresses and lighting setting changes by the color of the dress. I ended up taking her photos for more than 6 hours and hundreds of pictures. Picking one right picture from few hundreds is also time consuming. Some dolls are very photogenic and I don’t need to take very many. Some dolls are almost impossible to get correct color or facial expressions. Miss Diva was one of the difficult one…. ( yes, I knew it)

************************************************************************************************下着は出来上がったのですが、コルセットがまだです。と言うのは、後ろの穴のアイレットを留める器具を買い忘れていたのでした。:-( 　　というわけで、現在待ち状態。　　　　　とりあえず、今日は撮影をすることにしました。撮影には光の状態によって半日、もしくはそれ以上かかるので、できるときにしておかなければ。しかも、このBru嬢はお着替えを持っていらっしゃるので、ライトのセッテイングのテマヒマも二倍!?　結局6時間以上、何百枚も撮るハメに。お人形によっては、写真写りが良くて簡単に出来上がる娘から、どこでどうやって撮っても実物に近い色や表情が出なかったりとさまざまです。ミスディーバ嬢は、やっぱりむずかしいタイプでした。（知ってたんですけどね）

Bonnet completed

I finished bonnet and we had first snow fall this year!                                                             It was beginning of summer when I started making this doll. It’s amazing how fast time flies by. But it must be frustrating for all of you looking forward to see the finished product.    I appreciate for being patients and hey, I was able to relax little bit this summer doing things I have not been able to do for a long time.

ボネットが出来上がりました。そして今日は初雪が降りました。　　　　　　　　　　　　作品を作り始めたときは夏の始めだったのに、時がたつのはほんとうに早いものです。　　作品の完成を心待ちにしている皆さんにとっては、きっと歯がゆい4ヶ月だったと思います。　でもおかげさまで、この夏はちょっとリラックスしていろんなことを体験することができました。

I am posting photos of bonnet making from where I left last time.                                           I placed antique cotton batting inside the bonnet cap.

さて、前回の続きのボネット製作の画像を載せたいと思います。　まずは、キャップの内側にアンテイークの綿を敷きました。

Cover batting with antique silk lining fabric.                                                                            それからアンテイークのシルクの裏地を縫い付けます。

Applied antique crochet 3D rosette at the tip of the cap and decorate with antique crochet lace.　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　キャップの先端にアンテイーククロシェットの立体ロゼットを取り付けて、その周りをクロシェットのレースで飾り付けました。

I added more silk chiffon trim and placed antique silk ribbon at front top to give volume.

トップにはもっとたくさんのシフォンのくしゅくしゅをつけて、アンテイークのシルクリボンやベルベットフラワーでさらに飾りつけ。。。前から見るとこんな感じになりました。

 Also added antique millinery flowers and crochet trim at the side and the back bottom ..   クロシェットのトリムをサイドト後ろの襟足部分に付けました。

The dress and bonnet are now completed but I still have to make under garments. It’s my bad habit to save underwear making till the last moment. 🙁                                                  I am actually working on corset now. I will post photos of corset in next entry.                    To be continued …

さて、これでドレスとボネは完成しました。でもまだ、下着作りが待っています。私の悪い癖で、下着製作を最後の最後までとっておくんですよ。（しょぼーん）　　　　　　　　　　いまコルセットに取り掛かっているところです。コルセットが出来上がったら、また続きをアップしますのでおたのしみに。。。。
